Alcohol is a substance that is created when sugar and yeast ferment. This process, when mixed into beverage form, is what we typically see today in beer, wine, and various spirits. While alcohol is a very socially acceptable practice in our society, it is considered a drug due to its addictive nature.

Alcohol is known to be a depressant in how it affects the body. The more alcohol that one consumes the more the body slows down. Alcohol primarily affects your central nervous system which controls judgment, how your senses integrate and muscle movement. It also removes your natural inhibitions leading people to feel more bold and confident. This is why alcohol is often called liquid courage, because of its ability to help someone do something they normally would not do. However, consuming too much can lead to deadly and tragic consequences. Ultimately, this beverage when consumed responsibly can be perfectly fine for an adult, but when it is consumed irresponsibly there are often painful realities that follow.

In addition to what can happen to someone when they consume too much alcohol outside the body a lot of damage can be done inside the body. Consuming too much alcohol, especially over a long period of time can lead to a wide variety of physical ailments including but not limited to: high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, cirrhosis of the liver, damage to brain, birth defects in newborns, fetal alcohol syndrome, kidney damage, stroke, impotence and infertility.  It is best to consume alcoholic beverages responsibly so that you do not cause excessive harm to your health.

Consuming alcohol, when done responsibly can be a very enjoyable experience. However, when it is consumed rapidly and habitually it can form an addiction and cause permanent damage to your physical well being.
